Cloud Migration Architect
Job Description
As Cloud Migration Architect at CloudlyIO, you will lead the end-to-end migration of enterprise workloads, applications, and infrastructure into modern cloud environments across AWS, Azure, and GCP. CloudlyIO's customers operate in telecommunications, healthcare, and industrial sectors, where migration risk is high, downtime tolerance is low, and data integrity is non-negotiable. Your job is to make migrations succeed: assessed thoroughly, planned rigorously, executed cleanly, and optimized continuously after go-live.This role requires someone who has led migrations that actually went live, not just drafted roadmaps. You own outcomes, not just plans.
Job Requirement
- Lead end-to-end cloud migration projects from initial assessment through execution and post-migration optimization, across AWS, Azure, and GCP
- Design comprehensive migration strategies covering lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and full re-architecting, selecting the right approach based on application complexity, customer risk tolerance, and long-term cloud fit
- Conduct detailed assessments of existing on-premises and legacy infrastructure, documenting dependencies, performance baselines, security posture, and migration complexity
- Develop migration roadmaps, project timelines, risk assessments, and resource plans that are realistic and defensible to both technical and executive stakeholders
- Architect target cloud environments ensuring scalability, high availability, security, and cost efficiency from day one of the migrated state
- Design and execute database migration strategies targeting zero data loss and minimal downtime, using AWS DMS, Azure Database Migration Service, and GCP Database Migration Service
- Lead application modernization initiatives, migrating monolithic applications to microservices architectures where re-architecting delivers clear long-term value
- Implement migration automation using AWS Migration Hub, DMS, CloudEndure, and Azure Migrate, reducing manual effort and error risk across large-scale migrations
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and CloudFormation for repeatable, auditable target environment provisioning
- Migrate workloads to Kubernetes environments including EKS, GKE, and AKS with GitOps workflows
- Establish CI/CD pipelines to support automated deployments during and after migration, ensuring engineering teams are not rebuilding delivery pipelines from scratch post-go-live
- Design and implement security controls, IAM policies, and compliance frameworks during migrations, maintaining compliance posture throughout the transition
- Conduct performance testing and optimization of migrated workloads before declaring migration success
- Implement post-migration monitoring, logging, and observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, and ELK/OpenSearch
- Optimize cloud costs post-migration through rightsizing, autoscaling, and lifecycle management policies
- Troubleshoot migration issues including compatibility failures, performance regressions, networking misconfigurations, and data integrity gaps
- Document migration processes, runbooks, and lessons learned in a way that improves the quality of every subsequent migration
YOU MAY BE A GOOD FIT IF YOU HAVE
- 5 or more years of professional experience in cloud migrations and infrastructure, with a proven track record of successfully leading multiple migrations to production
- Deep hands-on experience with AWS including EC2, EKS, ECS, S3, VPC, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, Lambda, and Route53
- Strong working knowledge of Azure including App Services, VNet, Azure Migrate, and Azure Database Migration Service
- Working knowledge of GCP including Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, and GCP Database Migration Service
- Hands-on experience with migration tooling including AWS Migration Hub, DMS, SMS, CloudEndure, and Azure Migrate
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, and ARM Templates
- Experience migrating containerized workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, GKE, AKS, and Fargate
- Database migration depth across SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cosmos DB), including replication, high availability, and disaster recovery
- Strong networking and security fundamentals: VPC design, subnetting, routing, peering, VPN, DirectConnect, ExpressRoute, load balancers, firewalls, IAM, KMS, SSL/TLS, and WAF
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or GitOps patterns
- Experience with monitoring and observability tooling including Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, and ELK/OpenSearch
- Strong understanding of virtualization technologies including VMware vSphere and Hyper-V
- Experience working with AI tools to accelerate migration planning and execution
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Cloud certifications: AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or GCP Professional Cloud Architect
- Experience with serverless migration strategies using Lambda or Azure Functions
- Knowledge of data migration for analytics platforms including Redshift, BigQuery, and Snowflake
- Experience with SAP, Oracle EBS, or ERP migrations to cloud
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks including PCI DSS, GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC2 in a migration context
- Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and security scanning tools applied during migration pipelines
- Experience with service mesh technologies
- Strong presentation and workshop facilitation skills for customer-facing migration planning sessions
- Ability to mentor engineering teams on migration best practices and lessons learned
